Homeland Security Contracts Vendors to Secure Borders

The federal government has granted two companies contracts to help protect border security as part of a new program aimed at preventing terrorists from entering the United States.
PEC Solutions Inc., Fairfax, Va., was awarded a five-year contract valued at up to $60 million to manage the U.S. Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology program (US-Visit). The program will use biometric identifiers such as photographs and fingerprints to allow authorized tourists, visitors and students to enter the United States while preventing potential terrorists from crossing the border.
DigitalNet Government Solutions, Herndon, Va., was contracted to provide expertise to the Department's Biometrics Support Center. The information-assurance company will analyze the fingerprints of suspects and people on government watch lists. The value of DigitalNet's contract is based on the number of fingerprints it analyzes.
