Knoscape is an electronic article surveillance (EAS) system with adjustable
height and wide-aisle options. The 5-to-6-foot height and 3-to-5-foot
aisle-width range make the system suitable for retail and asset protection
applications, says maker Sentry Technology Corp., Hauppauge, N.Y. The
system detects commonly used magnetic strips, as well as Sentry's
Micro-Magnetic strips. The strips, which can be automatically deactivated
at check-out or be permanently active, cannot be foil- or body-shielded,
according to the maker. The unit, available in one-, two- and three-aisle
configurations, uses electronics that are remote mounted and feature
digital signal processing. The systems are installed and serviced by Knogo
North America Inc., a subsidiary of Sentry Technology Corp. BradyTRAXX is a database system designed to help users track, store and
manage information about assets, says the manufacturer, Brady USA Inc.,
Identification Solutions Division. The Microsoft Access-based software is
offered in the following packages: StockRoom Manager, Inventory Manager,
Asset Manager and ToolCrib Manager. All modules are available in modifiable
single-user and network versions. In practice, bar code labels are printed
and attached to items, indicating identity and location. An Intelligent
Laser Scanner or keyboard wedge scanner is used to collect information and
update files. The Odin wireless system tracks tagged assets and the personnel authorized
for their use. Produced by EXI Electronics Systems, Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada, Odin works with the company's RFID technology platform. It allows
an authorized user to move an asset in and out of secured areas but will
trigger an alarm if anyone else tries to do so, says the maker. The company
also produces Roam Alert and Tagrrr. Roam Alert is an RFID tag and alarm
system that deters infant abductions in health care institutions and
monitors the wanderings of patients with diminished awareness or
short-term-memory deficits. Tagrrr is a tamper-proof tag for laptop
computers and other assets, according to the manufacturer.
